Super single 2

Gent vs Viitorul Over 2.5

Head To Head: This is the 1st meeting between the clubs.

Stats: There have been over 2.5 goals in 5 of Viitorul's last 7 games. There were over 2.5 goals in 5 of Gent's 8 Champions League games last season.

Reason: This game sees two sides who are both entering the Europa League at the 3rd qualifying Round stage. Gent are the pretty clear favourites to win the tie having finished 3rd in Belgium last year and also made to the knock-out stages of the Champions League. Given their success in Europe’s premier competition, a 3rd qualifying round Europa League tie against little known Romanian opposition shouldn’t really trouble but you often get funny results at this stage, particularly with teams like Gent who are yet to play competitively this term.

They’ve only lost 1 of their 7 friendlies but haven’t won any of the last 4 coming into this and ended last season poorly in the Belgian Pro League taking just 4 points from their final 5 games, so there are still some question-marks against them.

FC Viitorul Constanța are an interesting team and will be a new name to most as they make their European debuts here. At just 7 years old they are one of the youngest clubs to have ever played in European competition and they were founded by and are currently both owned and managed by Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi. They finished 5th in the Romanian top flight last season and got off to a winning start in the new campaign last Friday. They’ve also beaten Partizan Belgrade in a friendly match this month so they look a decent side but are certainly the underdogs in this one.

They are likely to have a go though. Hagi’s men tend to be involved in high scoring games and 69% of their league games last season involved over 2.5 goals with plenty going in at both ends. Gent will also be positive and keen to work up at least a 2 goal advantage to avoid a tricky task in Romania next week so backing Over 2.5 Goals at 1.8 looks to offer really good value here.
