Manchester United vs Leicester city 1
Head To Head: Manchester United have won four, drawn two, and lost one of their last seven meetings with Leicester.
Stats: Both teams have scored in 64% of Manchester United's last 11 games and in 75% of Leicester's last eight.
Reason: Leicester begin their Premier League title defence season with the traditional Community Shield tie at Wembley. This will be their first participation in the competition, and as such they might take it a bit more seriously than some of the regulars in the match would.
They have looked decent in pre-season so far as they beat Oxford United and Nuneaton Town before dispatching of Celtic on penalties in the International Champions Cup, taking their unbeaten streak to a very impressive 15 matches in all competitions and friendlies, 11 of which have been victories.
However, they have lost a key player in their team in N’Golo Kante. This is something they will have to come to terms with after his incredible season last year, but the majority of their unlikely title winners have remained at Leicester during the summer. Whether they can put in a repeat performance of their incredible season last campaign remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that they are still a very good side.
Manchester United’s new manager Jose Mourinho wasted no time in bringing in reinforcements this summer. The signings of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly were wrapped up before the transfer window even opened, and the arrival of Bundesliga Players’ Player of the Year Henrikh Mkhitaryan came soon after.
This didn’t help them in their first International Champions Cup match though, when Mkhitaryan’s former club Borussia Dortmund hammered them 4-1 in America. The new arrival did get on the scoresheet though, which is always important for an attacking player.
This defeat made it eight wins, one draw, and two defeats in Manchester United’s last 11 games, and Mourinho will see this as an important first step in his Manchester United legacy. A win in the Community Shield would increase the fans and players confidence in him early on.
For both teams this is going to be much more than the usual pre-season warm up. I expect both sides to be going all out for the victory, and with both of them possessing an abundance of talent going forward we should see some goals. Manchester United have scored in each of their last 11 matches, but have also conceded in seven of them.
Leicester, meanwhile, have scored in 19 matches in a row now, but have conceded in six of their last eight and looked a bit less composed at the back when the stakes were lowered in the Premier League title race. My prediction is i'm backing Manchester United to get the win though.
